Downloading and Installing the FortiClient VPN
This article contains the high-level steps to install the VPN software. At the end of this article are step-by-step instructions as well as links for downloading the software. Choose the .exe file for the Windows software and .dmg for Mac.
To connect to your network drives (H drive, S drive, etc.) from off-campus, you will need to use the Forticlient VPN. This client is available for both Windows and Mac computers.
There are three required steps in setting up FortiClient VPN on your computer
- Download and install the client
- Confirm that the client is configured
- Test the connection
Before You Begin
- Before proceeding, you must uninstall any existing versions of Forticlient from your computer
Step 1 Install the Client
- Make sure you have uninstalled any previous versions of FortiClient VPN
- Download either the Windows or Mac (the links are also at the bottom of this article)
- Once you've downloaded the software, install it by following the onscreen prompts, but please note the following:
- On Windows:
- If you get the "Windows protected your PC" dialog box, click the More Info link and then click Run Anyway at the bottom
- When you are asked to allow the software to make changes to your computer, select Yes
- On Mac:
- When prompted, enter your computer password (this is not your Benedictine password but the one you use to set up and install software on your Mac) and click Next.
- When prompted, open "System Preferences.
- Go to "Security and Privacy" and select the General tab.
- Click Allow and then enter your computer password again.
- On Windows:
- Move on to Step 2, Configuration
Step 2 Confirm the Configuration
- After installing, open the client (the blue shield icon on your desktop)
- Check the "Acknowledge" box
- Click the three lines beside the dropdown that says "BenU VPN" and click Edit the selected connection.
- Check Enable Single Sign On (SSO) for VPN Tunnel
- Click Save
Step 3 Test the Connection (can only be done from off-campus)
- Open the Forticlient console (blue shield on your desktop)
- Make sure that the box "VPN Name" is BenU VPN
- Click the SAML Login button and, when prompted, log in with your BenU credentials
- When you're finished, click the Disconnect button
