Use a Password Manager for Increased Security
Password management is difficult and stressful. Consider the following:
- A secure password must be at least 10 characters in length but longer passwords are stronger
- In addition to the length, a password should have a variety of UPPER- and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters.
- For optimum security, you should have a unique password for every website , application, or platform that you log into.
If you follow these guidelines – and you should – you will have dozens (if not hundreds) of long passwords and you will never remember them all. And remember that you'll have to have the passwords on every device (smartphone tablet, computer, smart TV, etc.) that you access the sites from.
To make this possible and feasible, the IT department strongly recommends the use of a password manager. These applications/plug-ins allow you to easily manage all of your passwords, including filling in your login information on web pages.
The two managers that we recommend are:
Both of these have plug-ins for all the different web browsers as well as stand-alone apps for mobile devices. Store once, recall on any device.
